Erin, I haven't tried the "Active Link" or other activity monitor, but it sounds intriguing. I have a feeling I might be disappointed, too, because of all the sitting I do during the day. When I tried using a pedometer several years ago, I was surprised how much effort it took to reach 10,000 steps a day, even with my regular workouts. I'm afraid we've become a largely sedentary society -- and studies increasingly show that's not good for our health.

Weight Watchers is piloting "Active Link" a pedometer-like device that calculates my activity level and assigns a points value to it. I know I work out with good frequency (at least 5x/week), but I do sit a lot for my job. I'm shocked that it's telling me I'm less active than I think. My initial reaction is that it has to be wrong, surely I'm working out harder than this device can measure. The other part of me is thinking, maybe my perceptions are a bit distorted.

Does anyone else use an activity monitor? Have you felt that your results don't match what you put into your workout?

babymcjingles (I like that name!) I do think weights every other day is ideal. I used to be so pressed for time I would always choose cardio over weights because I wanted to burn fat. As I enter the later part of my 40s, I'm realizing that weight workouts and calisthenics are key to keeping fit. When you say vitamins, do you take a multi? Or specific supplements?

That's a real commitment to staying fit -- both mind and body. Sounds like it's working great for you! You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work!

I walk 6 miles a day, 5 days a week and do weights every other day...  I have a workout regimine that i've put together for myself..  i feel soooo amazing after I've worked out......   and I do like 10 minutes of meditation every other day as well, and I'm a firm believer in vitamins.....

Thanks, Sally. It was a fun vacation. The food and wine eventually edged out the exercise in my effort to stay fit, but I had lost some pounds in preparation for vacation, so not in too bad of shape. Getting back into my regular routine now.

Marcia, great vacation plan! Fun activities and great food.

Vacation workouts are going well -- start each day with a 2-3 mile walk, followed by some kicking and paddling in the water, usually with another 2-3 mile walk sometime during the day! Loving the good exercise -- and the good food and wine that the exercise allows me to enjoy!

Sally, ticks are bad in Virginia this year. I believe the mild winter and wet spring were to blame. I haven't seen any on me in our yard, though I do have friends who've pulled some off. I usually apply bug spray to keep the mosquitoes at bay -- not sure if that works for ticks, too.
