Yoga is great for so many things -- flexibility, strength, balance, calmness. I go to class twice a week and try to work in a little bit at home. That and 15 mins of cardio a day should keep you in good shape mentally and physically, Shirl.

So glad you are focused Marcia! I need to do 15 mins of cardio every day to bring up my low BP! Yoga helps in increasing flexibility and I end the routine with deep breathing and meditation. Am ready to face the world after that!

You're so right, Shirl! You definitely need to be ready to accept and love yourself and to quiet the negative voices, if you hope to succeed at lasting weight loss. A supportive group of friends can help. I am currently in an online boot camp that guides me through 6 workouts a week in a very encouraging way and also emphasizes "random acts of fitness," a term I love because it constantly reminds me to take a few extra steps or move a little more throughout the day.

Hello all Get-Fit Friends. So good to read tips and enthusiasm to stay fit! I realised that unless there is self-realization to address weight issues, nothing works. No point in hitting the gym or to diet if someone nags you to do so! There will be no weight loss. So let's continues to support each other.

Thanks for the tips, Vera. I agree that it helps the motivation and consistency when you have friends to exercise with -- whether that's a walking or running buddy or the instructors and friends at your gym. When I started working out regularly about 12 years ago, I ran into the same group of women every morning to do the circuit of machines at Curves. We were the early birds, starting around 7 a.m., and many of us became close friends. Definitely motivated me to get out and see my workout buddies. That gym closed 3 years ago, but some of us remain friends. I've made new friends at my new gym, especially in my yoga classes -- I miss them when I don't get there. I also have one friend with whom I walk once a week -- gives us great time to catch up and make sure we don't lose touch with what's going on in each other's life. Keep up the good work! It can be hard to fit in exercise when the kids are young!

Love the support in this group! I find I'm more likely to work out if I make friends with the group exercise teachers and greeters at the gym. If I'm away for too long, they call me out on it. It helps me get my butt out the door on the chilly mornings--it was only 2 degrees the other day in CT! RunKeeper is also an awesome app you can use to keep track of daily runs. If you want, you can push your run length/speed out to Facebook or Twitter. I found this helpful when I was training for a 10k. There are of course days I don't make it to the gym or head out for a run. On those days I have dance parties with my 5 1/2 month old. We put on Pandora and don't stop moving for about 45 minutes. She's 15 lbs (!) so it's actually a pretty tough workout!

My sister had to have her knees replaced in 2012, and her doctor recommended she lose weight before the surgery. She lost over 25 pounds in the 3 months leading up to surgery, and she credits her exercise bike for a big portion of her success. She'd walk her dogs in the evening and then ride her bike while watching TV at night. Carrying less weight definitely made her knee rehab and recovery easier. Good luck to you in your efforts and keep up posted!

I am on a mission to lose weight and get Healthy ) So I need motivation to succeed in my mission:) I do 45 mins walking my dog a day and 30 mins on my recumbent bike:) My doctor told me that's the way to go with a bad back. So went out and bought one and will have to say I love it. I can move and exercise without pain:) So I am here for support:)

Glad to be of help. I think most of us women worry about our weight, and most of us would agree that it's desirable not to let our weight get out of control because overweight and obesity are linked to many health risks, like diabetes and heart disease. But, I think you're getting on the right path to focus on healthy eating and routine exercise, rather than obsessing over weight loss or beating yourself up because you don't think you have a perfect body. It's important to love ourselves and our bodies as they are -- and to work to keep ourselves healthy! Happy to discuss anytime!
