Remove excess skin
Rips occur due to excess friction caused by bar or ring use, friction that can evidently take its toll on the palms of your hands and your wrists. When you rip, the angry exposed flesh can be a troubling sight, however, the excess skin around the rip must be removed for a quick healing process.
Use a pair of nail clippers that have been sufficiently sterilised to remove this excess skin for a clean cut and infection free removal, then wash your hands with soap and clean water.
Avoid hand lotions
Whilst a vital part of protecting your hands from rips is to keep them moisturised with a good quality hand lotion, applying hand lotion to a fresh rip is a big no-no. Instead of reaching for your favourite hand lotion, use an antibiotic ointment to encourage healing. Only start reapplying hand lotion once new skin has covered your wound.
